Your Forest Foundation has launched a new project in Georgia «Smart City: Heat Wave Pilot Project.” A pilot project was started in Batumi City.
The purpose of this project is to create an urban climate high-resolution network, performing the continuous meteorological monitoring (with update interval from 10 to 30 minutes). Climate data monitoring required for forecasting and advance warning the local population and tourists about the impending heat, thermal radiation (heat waves), storms and other weather events. The collected data will be available online for concerned state authorities, locals and tourists.
One of the main project purposes is to develop the shelter routes in hot weather “rush hours” and other weather events.
The population will be able to receive, in a continuous mode, the meteo- information regarding heat index, presenting a huge risk for sick people, as well as the information about shelter areas during the “rush hours”.
High temperature effects on human health are well studied and known. Heat waves tend to increase the overall mortality rate, for example, during heat waves, from 1939 to 2015, the overall death rate in major US cities (New York, Chicago and Los Angeles) grew by 7% – to 147 % compared to the baseline mortality. In 2003, the European heat was the cause of about 70 000 deaths. High temperatures and humidity can cause not only the heat stroke, but also exacerbate a wide range of illnesses: heat cramps, heat exhaustion and dehydration, exacerbation of chronic diseases.
Seven high-tech meteorological stations were installed in Batumi City. The next three stations at the nearest future is planned to install in Mtskheta City.
On the basis of artificial intelligence algorithm is planned to develop and create a professional version of system for different sectors, namely:
Health: will be collected anonymous health indicators database to identify the link between meteorological events and health: allergens warning system, dust storms, dangers for asthmatics, for seniors and for those who are taking medication and has a climate impact on them and so on. It is planned to develop routes for shelter (stores, cafes, canyons, restaurants) as well as the points of nearest help. The system will be directly connected to the nearest doctor, who can provide the first aid, and, in extreme cases, to the ambulance station.
Help for municipal services: early warning of city relevant services of impending dangers such as: fire, storm, drought, high evapotranspiration, snow, risk of infection and contamination, etc., for the timely implementation of measures aimed for protecting people from the damaging effects and natural disasters, ensuring mitigation of these impacts and assist people in emergencies.
Urbanization: calculation the optimal system for green building, taking into account the climate data.
Tourism: Intelligent routing of journeys and walks, as well as the forecast schedule for the next 12 hours to tourists, taking into account the climate data, and the risks that may have a meteorological events.
Agro: The user will be offered the analysis of its agribusinesses, the owner will be able to enter harvest data, and in return will be provided with recommendations for optimizing the business efficiency, as well as possible options for improving production.
